Nigeria Government set to manufacture indigenous drugs for export.

Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has revealed that Nigeria is working towards manufacturing drugs for export and domestic use.

The Minister made this disclosure while on a working visit to Uganda, to seek common grounds on how the two countries could collaborate towards overcoming the health challenges that affect them, especially as regards production of drugs to reduce dependency on importation.

Speaking while on an inspection tour of Cipla Quality Chemicals pharmaceutical plant in Kampala, Uganda, Dr. Ehanire commended the Ugandan Government for manufacturing and exporting anti-retroviral (ARV), malaria and Hepatitis B drugs, to meet the needs of their citizens, and exporting them to other African countries.

He assured that Nigeria would continue to dialogue with Uganda, while the two countries learn useful lessons from each other, tackle the high HIV burden that the two countries have, and seek markets for their products.
