Zenith Bank Plc once again demostrates its commitment to sports development by coming to the rescue of the Delta State Principal cup Football Competition in Nigeria.
The on-going competition, which was abandoned for many years, features about 1.646 secondary schools in all the 25 Local Governments of the state. The official opening ceremony on Monday 20th March in Asaba .
According to Peter Amangbo,The Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, The Principal’s Cup project is part of the bank’s ways of developing the Nigerian Youth “We always try to assist youths showcase their talents and this is just one of such events. Delta State has a rich sports background and we felt it is important that the secondary schools football competition is revived. “Amangbo said.
The CEO of Hideaplux, the organisers of the event, Tony Pemu, in his remarks commended Zenith Bank for the initiative which is timely, describing it as a blessing. “Delta State is noted for talents in all sports, especially football, but our young ones have not had the opportunity over the years. The sponsorship of Zenith Bank will take our football back to where it belongs in the next few years”
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Ebie, noted that the competition is a good opportunity to re-engineer education and sports to further stress the importance of discipline to the young ones. We take education and sports seriously in the state. “This is a football tournament, but from time to time, we will be talking to all the participants on the importance of morals”. Mr Ebie also assured that though the event is a junior competition, there would be world class entertainment at the event.
Zenith Bank had always supported youth football development and capacity building of administrators. The bank had also sponsored the National Women Football league for 12 years among others.
