Despite the High Court Order suspending the shutdown of three of Kenya’s largest TV channels, the stations remain off-air.
The stations’ signals were cut off on Tuesday to frustrate their plans of broadcast of the unofficial inauguration of opposition leader, Raila Odinga, which the government sees as a possible threat to lives and properties of Kenya citizens.
Kenya’s Interior minister Fred Metiang’i said “broadcasting of the event is an attempt to subvert/overthrow the government “and would have led to the death of thousands of innocent Kenyans”
The High Court suspended the ban for 14 days while the case is heard but it remains to be seen whether the government will comply with the order to un-ban the KTN, NTV and Citizen TV.
Meanwhile, Opposition Groups believe the government’s action is a violation of the public’s right to information about important events.
