Kunle Job….Motorists have been advised to slow down at construction and road rehabilitation sites across the nation to prevent Road Traffic Crashes RTCs.
The Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission of Nigeria, FRSC, Mr Clement Oladele has stated that half of the crashes in the state, this year, occurred at construction sites.
He made the remarks on ‘Oga Driver’ radio programme on Star 101.5Fm Lagos on Friday. He made reference to the Lagos/Shagamu Expressway, a long stretch of the Shagamu/Ore Expressway, the Sango Ota/Abeokuta and other busy corridors , which fall under his command, where construction works are going on, asking drivers to reduce their speed to 50Km/hr, observe the ‘Common Sense Speed Limit’ and obey traffic rules and regulations.
He drew attention to about 5 Kilometers of divers and narrow portions, citing Aseese, Mowe, Fidiwo Redeemed Christian Church of God and others on the Lagos/Shagamu stretch.
“They have to be patient and not drive against the flow of traffic, (One Way), avoid drinking and driving, over-loading and distractions such as the use of phones and engaging in discussions or arguments with their passengers” Oladele said. He also advised market women and men and other passengers to report errant drivers by calling 122, the FRSC Toll Free line, promising a timely response and appropriate punishment for such violators.
Having flagged of the 2018 ‘Ember Months Campaign’ with the theme as ‘Safe Driving, Safe Arrival’, FRSC is taking the message to Motor garages, the markets, Churches, Mosques and schools.
Oladele pledges to make the Gateway State, the safest for motoring by reducing road traffic crashes and will be happy for you to drive safely and arrive safely to enjoy the end of year festivities.
