Former secretary – General of the then Nigeria football Associated,Taiwo Ogunjobi died inthe early hours of Monday 11th of February,2019.
NAN reports that the 65- year–old former player of the defunct IICC Shooting stars died in the early hours of Monday 11th of February, 2019 at the University College Hospital in Ibadan.
The deceased was said to have been admitted into the Hospital on Saturday evening, but died in the early hours of Monday.
Several ex- footballers and football administrators described the death of the ex- international as a rude shock and a big loss to the Nigerian football family.
Ike Shorunmu, ex- international ,said he received the news of Ogunjobi’s death as a rude shock, describing itas a great loss to the football family.
Segun Odegbami, former captain of the Green Eagles, a team-mate and friend of the deceased described his relationship with Taiye, as one designed for a story book. “Taiwo was a great administrator and master of the political game. He served football, Oyo and Ogun states, and country very well.”
Bolaji Ojo-Oba, a former General secretary of Nigeria football federation (NFF), while describing the late Ogunjobi as a great man,said his death was shocking.
Duke Udi, a former Nigeria footballer, said he has lost a father in late Ogunjobi .” The late Ogunjobi brought me to Ibadan in 1994 and whatever I became today was through him. He bought my first house for me here in Ibadan.
The late Ogunjobi played for IICC, now 3sc, and the Nigerian national team, then known as the Green Eagles,later was an administrator at 3sc in the 1990s.
He later moved to the NFA, where he served as Secretary-General during the tenure of Dominic Oneya and Ibrahim Galadima as NFA Chairmen.
The deceased further moved on to serve on the NFF Executive committee where he was also the Chairman of State F.A Chairman during the Sani Lulu- Abdullahi administration.
