The Precarious security situation in Nigeria was manifest in the just concluded February 23rd 2019, Presidential and National Assembly elections. This is against the backdrop of a badly funded and centralized police.
A Security expert and public affairs analyst Dr. Desmond Ononuju bemoans the unnecessary loss of innocent lives across the country each time there is an election. He therefore advised that Nigerians should be very sensitive and avoid dangerous terrains.
“It is sad that Nigerians just have to protect themselves at this point in time. As they go out there to exercise their franchise, they have to be sure of their environment. It is only when you are alive, that you can exercise your civil rights”.
Dr. Ononuju, who spoke on Nigeria Info 99.3 FM, early morning programme, also advised the runner-up in the Presidential election and the flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, not to go to court, as the court system will take a long while.
“If you want to go to court, it means you have a clear case. Then your opponent is also ready to make a counter claim and the cases will continue till only God Knows”.
